Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth Observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. Our mission is to capture and deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data, currently not available from other sources, to provide insights that benefit the environment, enhance food and water security, and serve other critical applications. Our ground segment engineering team combines best-in-class remote sensing, software engineering and large scale cloud computing to take data from our in-house satellites to deliver novel data products.

As a Software Engineer, Satellite Operations, you will design and maintain systems that power Hydrosat’s management of our growing satellite constellation. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams - including cloud engineers, space systems engineers, and software developers - to build reliable, scalable solutions. Your work will include building full stack services that support satellite operations, developing automation for tasking satellites, and working closely with other engineering teams building our satellite data platform.
Responsibilities
Architect and develop scalable, full-stack services used for operating our growing constellation of satellites
Strong product mindset: eye for detail in shaping tools and reporting the scale the efficiency of our satellite operations
Own projects end-to-end: from design and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and iteration
Collaborate cross-functionally with space systems, product, and other software engineering teams
Mentor and guide engineers by sharing best practices and fostering a culture of technical excellence
Contribute to quality by conducting code reviews, writing tests, and improving engineering processes
Leverage modern technologies such as Python, Node.js, TypeScript, React, AWS, and Docker to deliver performant and maintainable services
Job requirements
US Citizen or Permanent Resident
5+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience with proven impact across multiple systems and teams
Strong expertise in Python and Node/TypeScript
Experience with front-end frameworks (React)
Experience with developing applications in a cloud environment (AWS)
Experience taking complex manual processes and developing automated services and processes.
Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality solutions
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
Nice to have
Preference for experience with python libraries for astrodynamics
Previous experience with space operations teams and technologies
Familiarity with the geospatial and Earth observation sector
